Arabian Affair - SOLD

Arabian Affair

I took Arabian Affair with me to Sydney to the ISS Showjumping Classic's presentation evening as part of my art display for the night.  It was so hot off the easel I didnt even have time to put cord and hooks on the back of it let alone write my details there.

Imagine my panic when this piece sold on the night.  Thankfully the new owner didnt want to collect it until the next morning so I had time to find a hardware store and purchase the neccessary bits and pieces ready to deliver to her.

Thanks Mim for purchasing Arabian Affair (20" x 20" acyrlic on canvas) may it bring you years of viewing pleasure.

Trust - SOLD

Trust

Sometimes as an artist you find an image that speaks to you.  This is one such image,  the horse in my artwork is called Nuthin because it was thought that that is what he would amount too Nuthin.  Its amazing what a bit of tender love in care will bring about.  The trust this little one has in the horse is remarkable and just spoke to me.

Thank you Tam for the use of your photo to create this work of art which will be used for my client Christmas cards this year.

Trust is created in pastels and 10" x 12" in size.  If you would like to commission an original work of art similar to Trust email me

Cocker spaniel in watercolour

Cocker Spaniel in watercolour
Finished this guy earlier on in the week. With North of the Harbours annual dog show coming up in a few weeks time and being one of the sponsors, I wanted to show prospective clients the other medium I have been working in - watercolour.
I fell in love with Windsor and newtons charcoal grey (which is what he is painted in) sadly they've discontinued this great colour, so I'm treating it like gold.
This boy is 10" x 14" painted on arches 300 gsm hot pressed (smooth) paper. For Sale

Pocket Full of Pups

Pocket Full of Pups

Ive been working on this piece on and off for a couple of months. As Ive enjoyed doing the single canvas's with the pop art pups on them and wanted to do something big and bold thought Id put brush to canvas so to speak an create a pocket full of pups.

After going through reference photos from various groups I belong too and finding the images I wanted to use the next hardest part was deciding upon the background colours to use. Not always an easy thing to come up with.

Pocket Full of Pups is quite large 122cm x 92cm (can work that out in inches if anyone would like me to convert) mixed media on 2.5 cm gallery wrapped canvas.

The bright colours would look great in an office or foyer and brighten any room with its vibrant colours.

Price: $1750.00 + shipping.

Charlie

Charlie
Earlier this year I saw Charlie at the local agricultural show. He was being ridden under saddle by his owner. As I had my camera handy and thought he had such great character I decided to take some photos of him in his yard. What made me laugh about him was that every time I clicked the camera he pulled a face like he was either smiling or laughing at me.
It had both myself and my mother in stitch's. Didn't give another thought to Charlies photos until I was asked to include photos of my artwork containing cattle in a magazine article. This gave me the excuse I needed to dig out Charlies photos and draw him.
Charlies portrait has been purchased by his owners. Thanks Robin and Garry.

Virtual Party

" Rear View"

A virtual party is a wonderful idea by a couple of members of the EAG (equine artists guild) the photo was supplied by Juliet Harrisson a wonderful equine photographer from the guild.
Each artist had 24hours to interpretate the image how they wanted and post to the party blog.
My interpretation was "Rear View" just a bit of a twist from my usual style.
I didnt have 24hours only had an hour to complete mine as I had other commitments for that day.
Rear View is 6" x 8.5" pastel. Check out the link to the party there is some amazing work there.
Cant wait for next months party.

Work in Progress stage 2

Stage II

Whilst most artists work from left to right I find it much easier to work from right to left. Perhaps that has something to do with my being right handed???
The next step in Ruger's painting is to start on the rider and saddle. The jodhpurs showed a bluish sheen down the outside of the leg which works well as a reflection of the blue background.
After adding colour to the jodhpurs I started working on the saddle adding the suggestion of light and shadow and defining the texture in the saddle cloth.

Hope your enjoying the process of Ruger's painting

Thanks for reading

Work in progress stage 1

The First thing you have to decide on when you about to do a painting is the colour background you will use. Because Ruger is a chestnut I thought that a bright blue would work really well and sing with his coloured coat.
Rugers canvas was undercoated with a black paint before drawing the image. This allows me to see the detail more clearly than it would if I was using a white background. Next I chose the blue I would use for the background. Stay tuned for stage 2

A little brag

Just a little brag from me. A while ago I was asked if I would like to submit an editorial along with images of my artwork for consideration for inclusion in the US magazine, Horses in Art.

Firstly I thought oh they'll never include me in there, but hey what the heck I'll submit and see what happens. I already subscribe to this magazine so if I get my work in there along with some of the top equine artists in the world that would be fantastic.

My copy arrived and whoo hoo not only was I in the magazine but I had a whole page to myself. Now this has really made not only my week but month as well. Sure doing a happy dance over this neck of the world.
