New work based on the rescue of the brumbies here in Australia.. This mare was rescued from the doggers some months ago by a Brumby Rescue group here in Australia.. she has since given birth.. hence the title of this piece Safe.

Safe a pastel work 9" x 11" and will be auctioned off to raise money for the sanctuary to both care for the horses already there and to help rescue others, handle and relocate to new homes.

I will blog when the auction is up and running with a link for those of my collectors who would like to have the opportunity to purchase this piece through a bidding system.

The Wiz - Friesian Stallion

Recently I was invited to attend the Shoalhaven Dressage Championship show with a display of my artwork... riders will be coming from all over the state for this event.

As some thing different from just a display of my artwork .. Ive decided to do a live demonstration of how I work ... I thought it might create a little more interest if people could observe me working  and could ask questions...

Last year at this event my husband took a number of photos for me of a beautiful Friesian stallion called Wizard.. it is one of his photos I will be using for my demonstration.. 

Ive worked the drawing up to the stage shown and will finish off his bridle, mane and shoulder over the dressage weekend.

The Wiz will be 20" x 25" when finished and is being drawn in pastel...

First Gymkhana is finally finished.. I didn't realise how long all those roan coloured hairs would take on the horses shoulder and chest.. ☺

Getting the right colour mix for the shadow of the rein and neck where interesting ... experimenting with a mix of colours till I finally found the shade I was happy with.

All that's left is to seal the painting once Ive let it dry out completely for a few days.. I find its much better to leave it a few days especially with the humid weather we've been having.

Listening my latest dressage watercolour using my favourite colour Windsor and newtons charcoal grey...

Listening will be 10" x 14" upon completion expressions are interest are being taken for this piece prior to both completion and it going on display at the Shoalhaven Dressage Championships mid November 2010

So far the riders jacket is completed and Ive started work on the saddle, saddle cloth and started laying the foundation wash for the bridle. I may come back and darken the riders jacket more once I have completed the horse.

Next month I will be attending the local Dressage Championships as both an exhibitor and a sponsor.... one of the ideas that had been put forward to me previously was to create a piece that didn't depict the entire horse or even the rider as such.. but a part of the rider that would be familiar to both riders and none riders a like.

With this in mind I looked at various aspects the bridle, top and and cane and finally settled on the top boot... which is part of the clothing familiar to every one in the horse world.

Leg On is created using my favourite watercolour Charcoal Grey on white arches 300gsm hot pressed (smooth paper)

untitled... new acrylic painting stage 1

Untitled - stage 1

I started on my latest acrylic painting this morning.. as yet the piece is untitled... guessing a name will come to me as I progress through this one.

Im looking forward to the challenge of painting the both the little girls face and the roan coloured appy in acrylics... the size of this a painting is quite large for me 24" x 30" but a good size to hang on the wall.

Stage 1... I painted the background using a mix of blue and white not minding that in places the white hasnt quite mixed with the blue giving a speckled effect which I hope will create a little interest in the background.

next I drew in the horse and rider... blocked in the whites on the helmet, joddies and the direction the white hair will be going in on the horses head.
