Piaffe

Piaffe

Well i finally finished this piece this morning after months of working on exhibition pieces.. it is the newest in my dressage series.

Funny how after you photograph a piece you think is finished you can see things that may need a bit of a tweak..

Will think it over over the weekend and then decide what I'll do. Piaffe is destined for a display at a dressage event I have been invited to just before Christmas..

However expressions of interest are being taken to purchase before hand

Fantasy

Fantasy

From time to time I like to work with a different palette of colours especially with black or dark coloured horses.

Fantasy was one of those such pieces.

Tyson & Pez

Tyson & Pez's portrait was commissioned as a 21st birthday present from Kelly.. Tyson's mother..

I really enjoyed the challenge of creating all those dapples on Pez's coat.  Tyson & Pez his beautiful stallion are regular competitors on the Australian show jumping circuit.

I love immortalising these special moments in time that become treasured family heirlooms.

Im a Chip

Im a Chip

Well Im a Chip is finished.. as the event was a night time race it was important to give the illusion that his ears and the top of his head which being a bay would be almost invisisable against.

I also add a little more dark green behind him to make his legs stand out.

Im a Chip - work in progress

Ive started work on the drivers silks adding the darks to his jacket along with his white pants... The gig has been an interesting challenge with all those bits of unfamilar harnes...

Lastly Ive started blocking colour on  Im a Chip's  body giving direction to his muscles out lining the darks and lights

Clear for Take Off

I started work on this piece quite some time ago.. and just could work out what it was that I wasnt happy with... finally decided that it needed a change of back ground colour.. so out came the black and now I feel its working much better makes the horse and rider stand out.

Two as One - work in progress stage 3

Two as One - stage 3

The saddle and jeans are now completed.. and Ive now started work on the horses chest and neck... the colour in the riders shirt is still up to debate..

I may make it all pink or shades of pink.. or a mixture of colours to give the illusion of texture without detracting from the rest of the drawing..

Two as One will be 12" x 24" approx upon completion

Two as One - work in progress stage 2

Two as One .. work in progress Stage 2

Really happy with the progress of Two as One .. Ive finished the horses rear end the shadows are important to give the impression of muscles and movement in the horse..

A good start has been made on the saddle and saddle blanket.

After marking out the blue for the jeans and the highlights on the girls shirt...I called it quits for the day

Two as One will be 12" x 24" approx upon completion

Thank you so much to Vicki Ostendorf for the use of her great photo

Trainers in Training - work in progress

Trainers in Training - work in progress

Trainers in Training is currently a work in progress and is one of my entries for the Inglis Equine Art Prize here in Australia..

The theme for the exhibition is life on the stud farm... it seemed an appropriate image to paint of these 3 kids almost inspecting this young thoroughbred horse... assessing its prospects as a future winner.. and there becoming the industries future trainers..

Trainers in Training is a watercolour and  will be 14" x 21" unframed size upon completion.. I'm enjoying the complexity of the fabric folds in the kids shorts...

3 Amigo's work in progress

3 Amigo's work in progress

An up date on these little guys.. I spent today working on the  middle amigo's yellow shirt.. jury is still out if I need to knock back the shadows a little..  once the indigo of the jeans is added I'm sure it will look a lot different.

Also started on the little girl amigo on the left lots to do to finish her shirt.. wanted to use a softer colour from the boys so Ive chosen rose madder.

The Brumby Whisperer - work in progress

The Brumby Whisperer - work in progress

I have a soft spot for brumbies not just because I learnt to ride on one as a small child that my grandfather owned or the fact that I now own my own brumby boy Star..

They are a breed of horse unlike any other I have ever met, intelligent, funny and loyal.. I wanted to show the bond that can be created between man and a wild spirit..

Hence the Brumby Whisperer was born.

The Brumby Whisperer will be 10" x 14" and is in  watercolour

It will be part of my exhibition pieces for the exhibition I will be part of in Sedona Arizona in August 2011
